1. How long have you worked at Amani?
I have worked here for almost 2 months! I started on August 5 this year.
2. What inspired you to join the team here?
Amani’s mission and the positive reputation that Amani has had over the 2 decades that I have worked in the nonprofit world here in Fort Wayne. During the hiring/training phase, I have appreciated the positive environment, the attention to detail in doing things correctly with integrity and the team focus.
3. What brought you to Fort Wayne, IN?
I was born and raised in Fort Wayne, and I have not ever lived anywhere else. My parents came to Fort Wayne back in the 70’s for my Dad to attend Fort Wayne Bible College.
4. What excites you most about Amani’s mission?
I love working with and cheering for the “underdogs” in life and sports so encouraging personal growth and fostering a spirit of belonging is how I strive to operate daily.
5. What is your favorite part of your job?
I believe my favorite part of my job is leading a team of passionate individuals who help others in our community know safety, stability and success.
6. What challenges have you faced in your role and/or department?
Thankfully, I haven’t faced too many challenges in my short time here!
7. What should community members know about Amani and what we do?
I would say that Amani is full of kind, genuine professionals that want to help our community to be the best place it can be for all humans.
8. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love spending time with my family, friends and 2 dogs. I enjoy reading, planning and cooking for parties. I spend a lot of time cheering for the South Side Archers football team and the Minnesota Vikings. Napping and eating at different restaurants keeps me smiling.
9. What is something surprising that not many people know about you?
I am not sure what is surprising, but I have a few fun facts! My husband and I share the same birthday. I am a pastor’s kid, a “daddy’s girl” and my Dad wrote 2 books. I eat like a 6-year-old child, very picky! I originally started college to be a high school Spanish teacher (only subject I was good at in school) my 4th year I changed majors to go more towards Human Services. I love sports especially watching my husband coach the South Side Archers. And I can fall asleep most anywhere and without much notice
10. What does mental health awareness mean to you?
Mental health awareness means to me that we are knowledgeable about what mental health is and the importance of taking care of our mental health plus what others around us may be going through as well. Also, what that entails for yourself, your own mental health, everyone is different. Do I need a break? Do I need to get together with a friend to talk? I am not feeling like myself, what is going on with me right now? It is helpful to know what resources are available in our community so that if you need help or know someone who is struggling, help can be located.
