Blackhawk Middle Schoolers Embody Amani Mission with "Pebbles of Positivity" Project

Students from Blackhawk Middle School’s “Ambassador” program show off their favorite “pebbles of positivity” during a field trip to Amani Family Services on March 27, 2025.

One of the reasons I love the connection between my son’s class of ambassadors and Amani is this opportunity for them to see that their actions are not insignificant. What they organized together has not only impacted fellow students at Blackhawk M.S. but will continuously impact the lives of immigrant families by making them feel more welcome. As a mom and promotor of Amani’s mission, I truly value the time and energy these bright youth put into the project to spread kindness and recognize our shared humanity.

Black Hawk Middle Schoolers are fostering a spirit of belonging! On March 27, 2025, The school’s 8th Grade Ambassadors donated a collection of beautiful painted rocks to be “planted” in our new green space.

The “Pebbles of Positivity” project began in November 2024 when Black Hawk Middle School teacher Laura Bailey asked parents to recommend project and community partners for the school’s ambassador program. In its 2nd year, the Ambassadors teaches leadership skills through projects and service-learning. When Amani immigration paralegal Libby Quintana heard about the project from her son, she connected the school to Amani.

Over the past few months, the student Ambassadors conceptualized and executed this project. Students learned Amani’s mission and services, presented the project to administrators for approval, fundraised during school spirit week to purchase the needed materials, and advertised the project to their classmates. Finally, they gathered their peers in the school cafeteria where together, they painted calming images and motivational messages on over 250 rocks.

Thank you to Black Hawk Middle School and your 8th-grade ambassadors class for spreading Amani’s mission and for sharing your “pebbles of positivity” with us!
