In January 2024 the Welcoming Fort Wayne plan was launched by community partners Amani Family Services, Downtown Fort Wayne, and Greater Fort Wayne. The plan is a result of a year’s worth of strategic planning and data gathering made possible by the 2023 Gateways for Growth initiative (G4G). In May 2024, Fort Wayne was selected as one of four localities to receive the Implementation Technical Assistance and Grant Award, the next phase of the G4G initiative, providing additional support towards implementing recommendations from the Welcoming Fort Wayne Plan.

In September 2025, the efforts of the Welcoming Fort Wayne Plan steering committee and core partners led to the successful recognition of Allen County as the 1st Certified Welcoming Place in the state of Indiana.

Through the continued support of our partners and the community, we can continue to strengthen equity through language access initiatives, access to workforce opportunities for immigrants and all residents, and increased inclusion for all.
