Why she does the work:
“As an educator, I know the value of cultural diversity. Multicultural and multinational perspectives make our community richer and more vibrant
How did you learn about amani?
I heard about Welcome Week in years past, but decided to find out more when Canterbury donated proceeds from the Jonathan Hancock Lecture to Amani in February of 2024.
How do you currently serve?
For the past two years I have been on the food committee for the One Beat fundraiser and I have done outreach at two events.
Why do you invest your time in supporting our mission?
As someone who is married to an immigrant and who also has a son-in-law and many friends from other countries, I know the challenges that can await people who immigrate to our area. As an educator and former faculty advisor to many exchange students, I know the value of cultural diversity. Multicultural and multinational perspectives make our community richer and more vibrant.
What is your favorite thing about volunteering for amani?
The staff and other volunteers are wonderful people who share many of my priorities. I enjoy getting to know them when we are helping advance Amani's mission.
